Personal Archiving Lab

The Personal Archiving Lab is an in-house, reservable set of scanning and recording equipment that allows you to convert personal photographs, documents, and/or recordings from outdated formats to contemporary digital formats.

With the lab you can digitize these materials:

  • Photographs and Other Documents
  • Slide Film
  • Photographic Negatives
  • VHS Video Recordings
  • VHS-C Video Recordings (a smaller version of VHS)
  • DVD Video Recordings
  • Hi8 Camcorder Video Recordings
  • Mini DV Video Recordings
  • Cassette Tapes
  • 3-1/2 Inch Floppy Discs
  • SD Cards (older digital cameras)

The Personal Archiving Lab is available by appointment. Please call the Reference Department at (608) 845-7180 ext. 2 or send an email to vpl [at] veronapubliclibrary.org (subject: Digital%20Archiving%20Lab) (vpl[at]veronapubliclibrary[dot]org) to reserve the lab.

Staff will provide instructions on how to use the equipment and get you started on your digitization project. Patrons must bring their own thumb drive (aka flash drive and USB drive) on which to store the digital files.
